Are Current UK Coastal Defences Good Enough for Tomorrow? An Assessment of Vulnerability to Coastal Erosion

چکیده

Coastal vulnerability and its physical, economic social consequences at national international scales is of high scientific, political policy interest. Anthropogenic climate change coastal erosion threaten the very fabric a society. Indications, that hazards are impacting diverse areas severely across world, it no longer vague future threat can’t be ignored. Rising eustatic sea levels synthesized by growing frequency scale like storm surges, landslides low-lying unprotected in United Kingdom even if they have defenses. However, there still significant uncertainty about degree along different stretches, particularly England. To fill this uncertainty, current study estimated hotspot Camber, England, establishing index. This index was developed compounding various existing parameters termed as Erosion Vulnerability Index (ECVI). Results illustrate 67% area fall between categories, defenses not strong enough to tackle severe Camber. Within evaluation, thematic maps were generated enable intensity for stretches identified. The evaluated vulnerable should treated urgently regional organizations ameliorate impacts other associated risks. Without action, likely encounter unprecedented new vulnerabilities, disasters humanitarian catastrophes. results allow local, comparison may help evaluate changes vulnerability.

Assessment of Green Measures as Coastal Defences Using Numerical Models

Climate change may reduce the performance and design life of “grey” coastal engineering interventions. Green solutions can be combined with present infrastructures providing extra flexibility to adapt our present beaches with affordable costs. This paper assesses the behaviour of a typology of green solutions (seagrass meadows) via numerical hydro-morphodynamic modelling for an erosive beach pr...

Operationalization of Sar Polarized Data for Assessment of Coastal Erosion

This study introduces a new approach for operationalization of SAR polarized data on coastal erosion studies. Polarized TOPSAR and ERS-1 data are used for this purpose. ERS-1 data was acquired on the 8 August 1993 and polarized TOPSAR data was acquired on the 6 December 1996. A quasi-linear model and a new model based on the Canny algorithm were used to model shoreline changes. Digitized vector...

Erosion Risk Assessment of Active Coastal Cliffs in Temperate

The potentially negative consequences resulting from cliff recession are a matter of serious concern in many coastal areas worldwide. The assessment of these kind of processes has traditionally been performed by calculating average cliff recession rates and projecting them into the future, without taking into consideration the diverse factors affecting cliff dynamics and stability. In this work...
